The free ride is about to end. The MTO has announced that tolling for Highway 407 East and 412 will begin on February 1st. Both stretches of highway have been toll free since they opened in June 2016, but the agency had always maintained that tolling would start sometime in the new year. There were some digital highway signs in the area that said the change would be January 16, but the MTO tells Durham Radio News that date was incorrect and the sign(s) were a mistake.
