Hours: 40 hours per week (1) one hour lunch; Mon – Fri (1:00pm – 10:00pm)

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The incumbent will be responsible for the daily ongoing efficient operation and maintenance of the plumbing, heating, and chilled water systems associated with all college and university buildings. He/she will provide plumbing installation, repair and preventative maintenance, as well as repairing, replacing and maintaining pumps and all types of piping systems. The incumbent will also ensure regular review and updating of all associated manuals, documentation, and the computerized maintenance management system.
Primary functions include:
Repairs all existing plumbing services, fixtures and associated valves, controls, and ancillary equipment as necessary to maintain an efficient and effective plumbing service.
Maintains all existing plumbing services by unplugging obstructed washroom fixtures, drains, sewers and grease traps; performs effective preventative maintenance procedures to minimize system problems including the lubrication of all water pumps.
Installs new plumbing services including hot and cold water supplies, circulating systems, drains, sewers and vents ensuring all work is completed according to Ontario Plumbing Code standards.
Estimates material quantities and investigates costs for project and repair activities; orders and purchases required materials; maintains supply inventory system to ensure proper chemical levels for the effective operation of college heating and cooling systems.
Monitors, tests and maintains hot water heating systems and chilled water cooling systems to ensure proper chemical levels for the effective operation of college heating and cooling systems.
Monitors, tests and maintains R. O. water systems.
Performs yearly inspection and testing of backflow prevention devices and ensures documentation is provided to City of Oshawa inspectors by required deadline.
Monitors work performed by contractors and trade workers and reports findings to the director.
Provides technical and support information as required to skilled, semi-skilled and/or unskilled staff.
Performs general maintenance tasks.
Operate college vehicles as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Certificate of Qualification as a Plumber.
City of Oshawa Master Plumber Certificate.
AWWA Cross Connection Control Certificate.
Minimum 5 years related practical experience.
Well-developed problem solving skills.
Demonstrated knowledge of the Ontario Building Code, Ontario Plumbing code, Building and Plumbing permit requirements pertaining to new and repair activities.
Demonstrated knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
Good interpersonal skills.
Ability to stay calm under pressure.
Flexible and able to adapt to shifting priorities.
Able to work both independently and as part of a team.
Possession of a valid driver’s license.
