Maintenance Assistant – 2 positions available

Job Description
Responsibilities:
Excellent internal and external customer service skills are required to be displayed at all times
Assist the Facility Maintenance Technician in general facility maintenance
Inspect on a daily basis all lighting, plumbing, electrical and mechanical equipment and repair or replace as necessary
Maintain and update all facility drawings, logs and schematics as required
Perform routine cleaning of difficult access areas (i.e.-gaming grid and H.V.A.C. ducting)
Clearing and salting of walkways as necessary
Grass cutting and trimming as required
General housekeeping duties, including tool maintenance, equipment supply inventory and general equipment maintenance
Liaison with Facility contractors to ensure all work is carried out safely and in accordance with AGCO and GBH policies and procedures
Assist in the completion of work orders, maintenance shift logs and project progress reports
Required carpentry work
General miscellaneous up-to keep duties including: painting, drywall repair, lock repair, etc…
Provide a daily shift report of all maintenance performed, equipment faults, and corrective actions taken to the Facility Manager, prior to the completion of each shift
To perform other duties as required by the Facility Maintenance Technician/Manager

QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum 3 years experience in maintenance within a commercial environment
High School diploma or equivalent required
Post Secondary education in related maintenance preferred or equivalent years of work experience required
WHMIS Certified Must have a class G drivers license with a good drivers abstract
Basic knowledge of building maintenance practices
Basic knowledge of mechanical, electrical and building control systems
Ability to lift 50lbs
Ability to work on ladders and /or elevated lifts
Ability to work in confined spaces
Ability to work in extreme environmental conditions while performing manual tasks
Ability to follow directions
Must be able to work in a team environment and independently
Excellent problem solving skills
Ability to work in a fast pace environment

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Excellent internal and external customer service skills are required to be displayed at all times
Prep, tray- up, set up and tear down buffets as instructed
Prepare, following recipes, salads, sandwiches, dressings, vegetables, fruits, potatoes, pizzas and desserts (cookies, pies, tarts, jello, puddings, mousse, whip cream, bread pudding, caramel sauce, crisps etc
Reheat soups, crock pots and gravy
Assist 1st Cook in their prep duties
Assist in prep of all catering events
Assist in prep of line (a la carte) items
Carve meats, run the omelet and live stations on buffet for guests in a friendly and professional manner
Control waste and spoilage and restock any low items during shift
Ensure all prep, re-stocking and cleaning is completed prior to the end of shift
Assist with duties of other staff as needed
Perform other duties as required by the Sous Chef

QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of 1-2 years of kitchen experience
Show initiative and desire in learning and understanding other roles and responsibilities in the kitchen
Must be self motivated
Basic knife skills
Ability to perform tasks and duties effectively and safely within prescribed time limits
Ability to follow directions in a friendly and professional manner
Must be able to deal with staff and guests in a professional manner
Excellent communications skills
Ability to work independently or as a team in a fast paced environment
WHMIS Certified
Must be available to work 10hr shifts and any shift during any day of the week.  The Casino is open 24hrs during 7 days of the week. A 4 week schedule will be provided.

Job Description :
A Bartender is a customer service and teamwork oriented position. As a Bartender you are required to provide direct Food and Beverage service to guests at the bar and to provide beverage service to the Food and Beverage Serving Staff. A positive, team player attitude is essential for individual satisfaction and the best positive overall results.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Promote the values of the Great Blue Heron Cultural Compass by example at all times and guide staff in adopting these values as a way of operating daily at the Great Blue Heron Casino
Customer Service:
Professional, respectful, fast, friendly, efficient customer service

Responsible Alcohol Service:
Complete comprehension and knowledge of all alcohol related House Policies, Practices and Smart Serve guidelines
Provide safe and responsible service of alcohol including:
Setting a drinking rate
Professionally informing the guest of house practices upon serving the third beverage
Avoiding intoxication
Informing all co-workers of guests being monitored
Proper monitoring, documentation and fluent communication of alcohol service to all areas of service

Cash Handling Responsibilities:
Counting of float following proper procedures i.e. rolling coin and completing form
Complete and correct cashing out procedures
Payment Procedures
Cash handling i.e. making change, playing chips, coupons,
Bar tabs, credit cards and debit transactions

Shift Responsibilities:
Following opening and closing bar procedures
Ensuring sufficient supplies and back-ups of beer, liquor, bar supplies, sundries, paper products, etc.
Proper operation of glass washer
Completion of Spillage documentation of liquor, beer, wine, and coolers
Execute Daily Inventories
Completion of Waste Sheets i.e. Pizza Log
Food and Beverage Knowledge:
Complete knowledge of GBH standard drink recipes
Complete knowledge of menus and buffets offered at the Lucky Stone Bar, Heron Bar and Water’s Edge Restaurant
Complete knowledge of POS operation ie: ordering menus items, tabs, tax exemption procedures, etc.
Through knowledge of Food and Beverage service of alcohol guidelines and practices

Cleaning and Equipment Maintenance
Regular cleaning and sanitation of glassware, refrigerators, bar surfaces, glasswasher, equipment and supplies.
Glass washer, Coffee maker, and pizza warmer preventive maintenance, maintaining proper fluid or chemical levels and cleaning on a daily basis

GBH Casino Policy and Procedures:
Follow all policies and procedures in the Liquor Procedures Manual
Adhere to policies set out in Casino’s ICM
Complete knowledge of GBH Employee Handbook
Perform other duties as required by the Food and Beverage Supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:
Minimum of 3 years of Food and Beverage experience in a licensed establishment
Practical experience as a bartender in a high volume licensed establishment
Valid Smart Serve Certification
Strong customer service oriented background
Teamwork experience
WHMIS Certified

Knowledge/Skills and Abilities:

Ability to follow directions in friendly and professional manner
Ability to perform tasks and duties effectively and safely within prescribed time limits
Maintain complete knowledge of and comply with company and departmental policies and procedures
Be thoroughly familiar with the causes of food poisoning and method of prevention
Maintain a positive working relationship with fellow employees and management as part of a team

Dealer Training

LOCATION OF TRAINING:    21777 ISLAND ROAD, PORT PERRY, L9L1B6

DEPARTMENT:                    TABLE GAMES

Applications are being accepted for a consecutive five week, eight hour a day casino table game training course taught by a professional Table Game Trainer at the Great Blue Heron Casino.

Training programs will start:
October 30 to December 1–from Monday to Friday 8:00am to 4:00pm (5 weeks)

Classes are held onsite
Free training, unpaid training
15 Students per class.
Breaks: Two 15-minute breaks, 30-minute lunch. A lunch (sandwich, pop/water) will be provided.
You will be reporting to the Table Game Trainer and Casino Management during the Dealer Training School.

To be considered as a participant in the Dealer Training School program, applicants must meet the following criteria:

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
Pass pre-screening tests determining participant’s suitability (English language, math, customer service, personality and aptitude measurements)
Ability to stand for an 8-hour shift
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in the English language
Pass weekly table testing and role-playing exercises
Lateness and absenteeism will not be tolerated (will only be allowed to miss one day of class or be late twice)
Detail oriented with excellent math skills
Demonstrated customer service skills (i.e. attitude, courtesy, appearance, overall conduct)
Positive and outgoing personality
Proper dress code required during the training program
Must be 18 years of age and have completed High School

DEALER TRAINING PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Participants will be trained in the following:
Table Games: Blackjack, BJ Switch, Spanish 21, 3 & 4 Card Poker, Let it Ride, Texas Bonus Poker and Mississippi Stud.
Table Game control and awareness: Participants will be taught to pace games correctly. The speed should be such that it benefits the Casino without aggravating our Players. Games are expected to be controlled efficiently and with an air of confidence.
Chip handling: Chipping and chip cutting to be carried out quickly and accurately, stacks are to be neat and even
Game knowledge and commentary: Participants will be conversant with minimum/maximum table limits and payouts as well as providing accompanying mandatory announcements in an audible and precise manner. The conversion of cash to chips and the addition of bets are to be performed quickly and accurately. Paperwork is to be completed with close attention to detail.
Game security and protection: It is the Dealer’s responsibility to be aware of situations around their game.
Customer Service: A Dealer has many roles including being an entertainer who provides an exceptional gaming experience for our Guests.
Interaction with Inspectors and Pit Managers: When to involve them and what information to communicate

PROGRAM COMPLETION
Participants who successfully complete the program (pass tests, are in good standing with their attendance and punctuality) will receive a certificate of completion.
Successful participants will be able to apply for a Part-time Dealer position with the Casino.

The successful participants, who are offered employment at the Casino through this Dealer Training School:
Will require licensing approval by the AGCO.
Hired Dealer’s are expected to work any shift during any day of the week, including holidays.
The starting hourly wage will be for a Dealer 2 level, $12.86/hr + $1.15/hr in lieu of full time benefits, plus excellent tips. (total approximately $22.00/hr)
